The BETTERSIZER will take over for CILAS – the next generation in particle analysis

Our long standing tradition in selling and supporting CILAS granulometers will come terminate with the end of 2017.

CILAS were the first to introduce a patented commercial solution for laser diffraction experiments to determine particle sizes in 1968. In the 70s, Karl-Jürgen Rath, who would later become the founder of QUANTACHROME GmbH, was already handling CILAS granulometers. Many CILAS operators and customers will find their older or current models for particle size distribution in the follwing history:

  • 1968 – CILAS invents first particle size analyzer for cement industry
  • 1972 – CILAS 220
  • 1978 – CILAS 227
  • 1979 – CILAS 715
  • 1985 – CILAS 850
  • 1992 – CILAS 1064
  • 1998 – CILAS 1180
  • 2006 – Ecosizer
  • 2008 – CILAS 990, 1090, 1190

At the end of 2017, CILAS says farewell to their commercial laser diffraction branch for particle size analysis and we are sad to let them go. However, we will still be supporting our CILAS customers with maintenance and spare parts. We are looking forward to continue successful relationship with our year-long customers and are grateful for their trust in us.

Many customers have also inquired, why CILAS was dropped. A good guess based on the above history is, that no significant innovations have been made in the evolution of the laser granulometers and the next generation of these instruments would have required significant investments…

This new generation has arrived now and QUANTACHROME will deliver it to you: The BETTERSIZER-Series for high-resolution particle analysis from 0.01 to 3500 µm. We would like to stress only three major differences between a BETTERSIZER S3 Plus to any existing CILAS instrument here, because the                                                                                        BETTERSIZER is “The Next Generation in Paricle Sizing”:

  • the BETTERSIZER S3 PLUS is fitted with a double lense technology, which is optimal for the finer ranges at 10 nm
  • the BETTERSIZER S3 Plus includes a camera for particles up to 3500 µm, which is integrated into the analysis setup and optimal for the detection of oversize materials
  • the BETTERSIZER S3 Plus includes a secondary CCD-camera for parallel particle shape analysis, which is also integrated into the analytical setup

BETTERSIZER S3 Plus – a really new generation of laser diffraction devices

The parting of the traditional CILAS customer support and sales allows us to open new possibilities for particle analysis: BETTERSIZER – the next generation…
