New article in the journal “Chemie Ingenieur Technik”: Investigation of the particulate properties of sands with regard to their suitability for concrete production

Sand is an essential raw material for concrete production in the construction industry. One might think that due to the large area deserts like e.g. Sahara, Gobi, Kalahari etc. sand would be available in unlimited quantities as a raw material. However, this is not the case, as these sands are not suitable for the production of high-quality concrete with the appropriate mechanical properties.

In order to prove whether a sand is suitable for processing into concrete, a measuring device must be able to determine the particle size distribution exactly over the relevant particle size range and, in addition, to statistically represent the circularity of the grain. As shown in our current article in the journal “Chemie Ingenieur Technik”, the Bettersizer S3 Plus is able to determine both parameters using a combination of laser diffraction and dynamic image analysis in one instrument.
